​EGO. She’s our bodyguard in a crowd, our bouncer at 1am, and our protector when it all feels like too much. Unfortunately, she can also be our biggest DRAG.
 
Hear me out: Our Ego is designed to keep us safe in this human world of form. Our true selves are sensitive to all of the energy that flies around us, and so our Ego serves as our armor to keep us safe from threats and hurt. She is SO WELL intentioned, bless her heart. 
 
But the paradox of this good intention is that she can actually shield us from our own TRUE SELF. That soul self that came into this world in a tiny, fresh set of skin, chubby legs, and wrinkly little toes. It’s that self that we need to be paying attention to. And our Ego? She often views that True Self as a threat.
 
This is why I’ve deemed Ego as S.A.S.S.Y. - the “Small and Supposedly Safe You”
 
The more I learn about my True Self, my Soul Self, my reason for even being here on this planet, the more I realize that my Ego has been lying to me. “Play it safe, Allyson. Don’t stand out. Be good at what you do, but not too good or too different because then people will notice you. And if they notice you, they’ll judge you, and that hurts. So just DON’T.” 
 
In the interest of ignoring my Ego, I’m proud to say that I’ve been studying Astrology over the last year. And in the past year, I’ve come to start to understand my birth chart and why I’m really here. We generally all know our Sun sign. I’m born on May 5th, which makes me a Taurus. Grounded, organized, and incredibly loyal (unless you REALLY piss me off and then I’ll charge at you like a bull.) But then there were all these other parts of me that didn’t seem to fit into the Taurus demeanor. And not to go into too much length here, but Taurus is an Earth sign, and most of the time inside of me, I feel like I have a burning that I’m not fully expressing. 
 
Cue me studying my birth chart. That’s when I learned that my Moon Sign (internal/emotional world) and my Rising Sign (soul’s expansion) are both Fire signs - Leo and Sagittarius respectively. Just learning this about me BLEW MY MIND. What’s more, my North Node (path to enlightenment) is Aries, which is ALSO FIRE. No wonder I feel a burning!
 
And this has led me to this realization:
 
"The place in you where you’re the most afraid is the place where you hold the most power."
 
More specifically, the place where your EGO is the most afraid is the place where your SOUL actually holds the most power. But sometimes it can be hard to separate your Ego voice from your Soul voice. 
 
In other words, the statement you make the MOST about yourself, the one that makes you feel small and self-deprecating is actually the complete OPPOSITE of your true nature. The thing that feels the scariest for your expansion is the thing your SOUL actually WANTS you to do. Your S.A.S.S.Y. Ego has just hijacked the controls.
 
Sitting in the Adirondack chairs on Mackinac Island about a decade ago, I was watching the sailboats in the water and I had an epiphany that I was afraid of everything. Afraid of judgement, afraid of not being good enough, afraid of being wrong, afraid of making too much noise, afraid that who I was was WRONG. 
 
In my case, studying Astrology helped me to reframe those beliefs. It helped me to validate all the feelings I’d had. To eliminate doubt. To reconnect to my truth. To reconnect to my power.
 
I AM good enough. In fact, I’m BETTER than good enough. The stars tell me that I’m meant to burn bright, make noise, make waves, share my thoughts, and be my wild, honest self.
 
So where does your Ego keep you S.A.S.S.Y.?
 
Do you think, “I’m not great at connecting with people”? 
Reframe: Your TRUE nature is SO great at connecting with people that it scares your Ego, and therefore your Ego keeps you S.A.S.S.Y.
 
Do you think, “I don’t have enough knowledge about my passion to actually share what I know”?
Reframe: Your SOUL already intuitively knows ALLLLL about this topic and is burning for you to share it so you can start helping people, but your Ego dreads judgement. So it would rather keep you S.A.S.S.Y.
 
Do you think, “I’ve not been at this job long enough to ask for what I’m worth”?
Reframe: Your SOUL and your unique perspective is your contribution, and that is worth enough and then much, much more.
 
Get what I mean?
 
So, what things about yourself do you hold the most fear and doubt around? And what if, what if, in reality, that was actually the thing that comes the MOST natural to the REAL, SOULFUL, TRUTHFUL you?
