What's the Difference between Your Soul, Your Higher Self, and Your Spirit?

And while there is nothing wrong with that, if you only do so out of fear of listening to your own inner voice, you are disavowing that divine part of you; the acknowledgment of your connection to Source, which is not just a piece of you, it is all of you."

I was asked by a client the other day what the difference is between your Soul and your Spirit, and where the Higher Self exists among those titles. While different schools of thought may use these words interchangeably or assign different meanings, this is the difference that resonates with me:

Your Soul is a specific collection of energies that incarnated into a physical body. Prior to coming together as your Soul, many of these energies were part of the soul of others who had incarnated in previous lifetimes. Your Soul is the energy that physically animates you and gives you your innate traits and talents. This is what your Astrological Natal chart can show you- all the energies that came together to make up your Soul. *See me if you want to know what your chart says.

Your Higher Self, or your essence, is what carries the memory forward from the previous souls' experiences. Every soul is unique because the energies come together in a different way every time they are incarnate. You having a memory of a previous life is delivered to you from your Higher Self, retaining the memory of the energy and the lessons learned from your Soul's life. Your Higher Self carries forward the wisdom you've obtained from your previous lives and is the part of you that remains relatively constant among your physical lifetimes.

Your Spirit is your direct connection to Source. It is the part of you that sees from a wholly objective, loving, and Divine perspective. It's the part that knows us all to be One and is what we return to when we go back into non-physical. I believe your Higher Self to be an extension of your Spirit, just as your Soul is an extension of your Higher Self. It's simply that the energy gets more specific the further down the energy chain you go.

Abraham-Hicks explains the energy dynamics behind this phenomenon. They tell the story of how in the same moment, Esther (the woman who channels Abraham), Esther's husband, and Esther's daughter were standing in front of a statue of Samuel Adams in Boston and all realized and exclaimed simultaneously, "I was Sam Adams!" While that may seem confusing, they were actually all correct. They all had indeed been Sam Adams. 

For a long time I thought that our one Soul bounced from life to life to life intact. But this isn't how it works. As described above, souls are a collection of energies. So when someone passes on, that soul's collective energy may split or combine with other energies to become incarnate again. Therefore, the past life memories or experiences will be accessible to the new incarnation who seeks to remember. This is why it is possible and probable that multiple people share past life memories of being the same person. It is because when that soul went back into the non-physical plane, the energy and imprint of that soul morphed or split and a little bit of energy scattered like raindrops into new incarnations. Therefore, all of those new incarnations are able to say they had a past life as that person. 

For example, Dr. Linda Backman of the Ravenheart Center, who specializes in past life regressions, confirms that there are multiple Mary Magdalenes incarnate on Earth right now because of this phenomenon. The energies that came together to incarnate into who we know as Mary Magdalene rearranged once she passed into non-physical, and now the energy that was her lives on inside other beings here on Earth simultaneously right now. So when Dr. Backman regresses these people, they all have access to the memories of being Mary Magdalene. 

WILD right?? 🤯

It is for this reason that you should never discount anything you seem to know intuitively. It could be information imprinted in the energy of your Soul, a memory from your Higher Self, or Spirit whispering to you from your Universal, eternal wisdom. Each extension is a part of you that exists across time and space and can reach into different dimensions and planes. 

We are so much more Divinely connected and have access to so much more Divine wisdom than we give ourselves credit for. In fact, we are Divinity in human form.

My wish for you is that you learn how trust yourself and let that be enough. Pay attention to the subtle cues, knowings, and shifts within your body. They are important communication and they matter.
